Position: Code Enforcement Officer
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The following statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other nonessential or peripheral duties that may be required. The City of Glenarden retains the right to modify or change the duties or essential functions of the job at and time.
- Enforces all laws and Maryland revised statue including, bur not limited to, traffic control, animal control and City ordinances.
- Conducts inspections and investigation of cases pertaining to the violation of municipal codes.
- Responds to citizens requests such as barking dogs, cat problems, and animals roaming free.
- Maintains animal control by enforcing laws related to animal cruelty and the licensing of pets.
- Patrol the streets of Glenarden for municipal code violations.
- Maintains records and reports of evidence and serves as the evidence custodian for department.
- Prepares monthly reports for the Mayor and City Manager on department activities.
- Prepare all building permits following the approval of the Building Permit review process.
- Performs other duties as required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of high school or GED supplemented with some construction experience; knowledge of construction building codes.
- Familiarly with applicable State and local housing codes and ordinances.
- Good working knowledge of the principles of sound housing construction, plumbing and electrical installations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with building owners and/or their agents.
- Ability to enforce codes and regulations with firmness, tact and impartiality.
- Good physical condition.
- Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with other employees and the public.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION:
- Possession of a valid Class "C" Maryland driver's license. Driver’s license is to be in good standing and acceptable to the City of Glenarden, and/or its insurance carrier.
- Must become State of Maryland certified Codes Inspector and BOCA Property and Maintenance certified within 2 years from the date of hire. This certification must then be maintained.
