Rhamat Alhassan is currently playing professional volleyball for the NEC Red Rockets in Kawasaki, Kanagawa, Japan. Rhamat has competed for the U.S. Women’s National Team in 2015 and 2016 while still in college at University of Florida and was named Best Blocker of the 2016 Pan American Cup.
Glenarden Duo will play in the National Football League.
The City of Glenarden, Maryland is pleased to announce that two natives of the city will play in the National Football League during the 2018-19 season.
Ja’ Bentley of Purdue University was drafted by the New England Patriots in the fifth round of the NFL draft and made the team as a linebacker. Bentley, a graduate of DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland, played in 38 games for the Boilermakers. He had 272 tackles during his college career. He had two interceptions with one returned for a touchdown. He had three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and recorded a sack.
Nick Nelson of the University of Wisconsin was drafted in the fourth round of the NFL draft by the Oakland Raiders and made the team as a defensive back. Nick Nelson, a graduate of Suitland High School in District Heights, Maryland, attended the University of Hawaii for one year right out of high school. Later, he transferred to the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin. He played 37 games for the Badgers. He had 124 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble. He defensed against 42 passes while playing defensive back. He was named to the 2017 Big Ten first team and earned CBS second team “All-American” honors”.
