City ARPA Grant Opportunities Now Available!
The American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021, delivered $350 billion to state, local and tribal governments to aid in recovery from the COVID-19 emergency. The City of Glenarden received $4 million as a part of the State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (SLFRF) program. City Council has designated some of those monies as grants for eligible homeowners, businesses, and non-profits.

Bag it Right (Better Bag Bill)
Effective January 1, 2024, the County implemented the Better Bag Bill?
Prince George’s County prohibits all retail establishments from providing plastic carryout bags to shoppers and, with certain exceptions*, shall charge at least 10 cents for each paper carryout or reusable bag provided to a customer. To assist residents in making the transition, the County will provide a limited amount of free reusable bags and will announce distribution dates and locations once finalized.

The City of Glenarden adheres to the recycling guidelines set forth by the Prince George's County government. For more details, please refer to the provided link here. Moreover, plastic bags placed in your recycling bin or cart will no longer be collected. Refer to the flyer for details on proper plastic disposal.

By sealing gaps, adding insulation, and improving your heating and cooling system, weatherization of your home can reduce your energy consumption and lower your utility bills. See the UCAP flyer in this newsletter for information on eligibility and how to submit an application to UCAP. Introducing Thrive Prince George's Guaranteed Basic Income Program
In partnership with The Greater Washington Community Foundation, and the Meyer Foundation, The Prince George's County Council are thrilled to announce the launch of Thrive Prince George's, a 2-year $4 million guaranteed income pilot program that seeks to economically stabilize the county residents while promoting upwards mobility for more Prince Georgian families. This Guaranteed Basic Income Program was made possible through council resolution CR-018-2023 which was championed by Councilmember Krystal Oriadha. CPSTS, Inc. is fueling dreams with the 2023-24 FREE Driver's Ed Scholarship Program for Prince George’s County Public School students aged 16-18.
EMERGENCY SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD STAFFING PLAN ANNOUNCED FOR PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - January 5, 2024
LARGO, MD – In response to the shortage of School Crossing Guards (SCGs) in the county, the Alsobrooks Administration has implemented a coordinated, comprehensive emergency crossing guard staffing plan, effective immediately. Prince George’s County Police Executive Command staff, along with police officers, will temporarily staff uncovered locations until dedicated crossing guards are hired. In addition, the Police Department’s School Crossing Guard (SCG) unit is launching a robust recruitment campaign, distributing bilingual hiring flyers, utilizing social media, engaging the faith-based community, collaborating with County Council members, partnering with Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS), and promoting the job posting through Employ Prince George’s.
The rate of pay has now increased from $12.77/hour to $17/hour. Residents may apply by visiting, Crossing Guards | Prince George's County (princegeorgescountymd.gov) and for additional information.

Become a member of the Senior Advisory Board for the Office of Congressman Glenn Ivey. This opportunity could provide our senior community an opportunity to communicate potential areas of concern.
About the Seniors Advisory Board:
Looking for seniors who can bring their unique perspectives regarding issues that impact Maryland’s 4th District Elders. This advisory board will assist in bridging the gap between the federal government and very important senior community. Meetings will assist Congressman Ivey in creating community events and even providing Town Hall discussion topics.
Planned to meet officially, once a quarter, but want to exist as a resource to the advisory board members with expectation to provide resources to the impacted community. No government experience is required but please apply prepared to discuss issues relative to the senior community.
