President Joseph R. Biden ordered the United States Flag to be flown at half-staff on September 11, 2023, for Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance. This is to honor and pay our respects to the individuals who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks against the United States on September 11, 2001. The United States Flag shall be flown at half-staff from midnight tonight, Sunday, and returned to full-staff at midnight, Monday night (fly at half-staff for the full 24 hours of September 11, 2023). As a matter of protocol, the Maryland flag is lowered to half-staff. No flag may fly higher than the United States flag.

This day aims to raise awareness of overdose and reduce the stigma of drug-related death in the continuing fight against the opioid epidemic in Maryland.

Trossbach of the Naval District Washington Fire Department at NAS Patuxent River, who died in the line of duty yesterday, Tuesday, June 27, 2023, while fighting a fire in St. Mary’s County.
